We were bracing ourselves for what we heard was a terrifically boring haul across the length of Kansas. However, Lindsey and I were both surprised at just how pretty the Sunflower State actually was. There were lots of green rolling hills and farms. While it was pretty monotonous, it was, well, pretty.
Our country tis of thee...sweet land of Kansas farms...
Lindsey planned a terrific scenic route through the state, and we planned a stop in the strange town of Lucas, Kansas, aka the "Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas." We visited the Garden of Eden which was created mostly from limestone and concrete. You can see many of the items in the Garden of Eden in the photos below. I found the fact that the artist behind the concrete and limestone married a twenty year old when he was 80 and built a mausoleum for both of them was a bit creepy.
And then we randomly passed a junkyard full of cars...and slowed down to get the shot...because how many times do you pass by a yard full of numerous cars that are not part of a car dealership?

We arrived in Boulder and decided to tool around the downtown Pearl Street area. It has a bit of an Asheville vibe and was such fun. After dinner we walked around to check out the entertainment. This is a photo of Sven, an amazing street performer. He was totally entertaining to watch and ended up giving us several travel destinations in California, including Glass Beach. We'll keep you updated on how we feel about his recommendations.

Lindsey - When you were going through Kansas, did you see fields of sunflowers? Since you do not have any photos of them, I'm guessing NOT! Someone I met from Kansas once told me that Kansas is really beautiful with all the sunflower fields - not boring like everyone says. Just curious. Looks like your having quite an adventure!
